Initial initiative of Kolkata Metro Railway

Kolkata Metro  is the first underground metro in India.It was the first planned and operational rapid  transport system in India. It was planned in 1920 and construction started in 1970. The first elevated strated from Bhawanipore (now Netaji Bhawan) to Esplaned in 1984. Kolkata Metro has 30 (Operational) 38 (Under Construction)26 (Planned) Stations.

Kolkata Metro railway currently consist of two operational lines about 33.02 km (20.52 mi). Line -1 (North-South Metro) is  from Noapara to Kavi Subhash  about  27.22 km (16.91 mi) and the Line -2 (East-West Metro) from Salt Lake Sector V to Salt Lake Stadium about 5.8km (3.6 mi). The system has mix of underground,Upper-ground, and elevated stations using both standard-gauge and broad-gauge.

Kolkata Metro sevice  operates between 05:45 Am to 09.55 Pm , and the fares ranges between Rs. 5 to Rs30.

North-South Metro Corridor of Kolkata Metro (LINE-1)

Line 1 or the North-South Line has a total length of 27 kilometres. It has 24 operational stations from Noapara to Kavi Subhash. Out of 24 Station  7 are elevated  2 are upper-ground and 15 are under ground. There are 2 more station are under construction in this line. The line connects Noapara and New Garia.

Dum Dum was the first underground railway to be built in India. The Line-1 is operated by Metro Rail way Kolkata. To Visit it Official Website Click Here. The Line took nearly 23 years to completely construct around 15 km underground railway Station.

East-West Metro Corridor of Kolkata Metro Rail (LINE-2)

Kolkata Metro Line 2 or East-West Metro  is a rapid transit line of the Kolkata Metro in  West Bengal. It is currently consists of a small operational section from Salt Lake Sector V to Salt Lake Stadium about 5.8km (3.6 mi). It has planned to connect Teghoria with Howrah by going under the Hooghly River. Line 2 will be India’s first underwater metro tunnel along with the deepest metro shaft.

It planned to  consist of 17 stations from Teghoria (Haldiram) to Howrah Maidan. Out of 17 stations 11 would be elevated and 6 would be underground. It’s Distance would be 22 km. The 6 Stations (Saltlake sec-v to Saltlake Stadium) alredy started from 13 February 2020.
