Bahrain (Urban Transport News): The Ministry of Telecom Transport has announced the launch of Phase 1 of the Bahrain Metro Project pre-qualification tender for local and international companies with relevant expertise in the field of public transport.

The move follows the government’s announcement of an economic recovery plan launched in accordance with the royal instructions of His Majesty King Hamad and announced by the cabinet chaired by His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The project is one of the most important strategic projects in the Kingdom aimed at supporting economic growth by attracting additional foreign direct investment and large multinationals, which will enhance Bahrain’s competitiveness.

“The Bahrain Metro project is one of the most important land transport projects that provide a new sustainable mode of transport in the Kingdom with the aim of achieving Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. The project is part of the Strategic Projects Plan and a priority of the Government Projects worth over USD 30 billion. The plan to develop an integrated public transport network will contribute to increasing the efficiency of transport services in the state,” said Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed, Minister of Transport and Telecommunications.

“The Bahrain Metro Phase One project will be implemented in line with the latest international standards in the industry, and will be fully automated.

The first phase of the project will be carried out as an integrated PPP with the private sector, and the pre-qualification tender phase is the first step to identify a suitably experienced and qualified individual company or consortium of companies with relevant expertise for design, construction Is. The Bahrain Metro Phase One project will have two lines with a total length of 29 kilometers and 20 stations, connecting Muharraq, Manama, Diplomatic Area, Zafair, Seif District, Tubli, Adri and Isa Town.
