Noida, India (Urban Transport News): The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) on September 2, 2021, to connect the Delhi Metro’s Airport Express line with the upcoming airport at Jewar in Greater Noida. ) is signed. Feasibility study for a new high-speed metro rail link between the two airports.
As per the MoU, DMRC will conduct a feasibility study on setting up a high-speed metro rail corridor between the Delhi Metro’s airport line and Greater Noida. DMRC will also prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Metro Rail Corridor between Greater Noida and the upcoming Noida International Airport.
Currently, the Delhi Metro’s Airport Express line is spread over 22-km between Dwarka Sector 21 and New Delhi stations, and officials plan to eventually connect Noida International Airport to the existing Metro network in Delhi and Noida. The plan is underway to increase mobility through a rapid transit network and connect it to the upcoming state-of-the-art Noida International Airport.
Sources said the feasibility study for the Greater Noida-Noida International Airport corridor has already been completed, after which the DPR will now be prepared. A feasibility study will be done as per the MoU for the second section connecting Greater Noida and Airport Line.
As per the plan, the total length of the Greater Noida-Noida International Airport will be around 36 km and the existing Airport Express line of Delhi Metro will be 38 km long. Both these lines are being planned as “high-speed metro corridors” on the lines of the currently operational Airport Express Line which connects New Delhi to Terminal 3 of IGI Airport.
Both these corridors will originate from Knowledge Park 2 station in Greater Noida, which will act as a connecting link between the two sections. The Airport Express Metro Line-Greater Noida Corridor is also likely to be extended from New Delhi station.
