Chandrayaan 3 landing update

The Vikram lander has successfully completed its final deboosting maneuver and is now in a 25 km x 134 km orbit around the Moon.

The lander will undergo internal checks and await the sun-rise at the designated landing site.

The powered descent is expected to commence on August 23, 2023, around 1745 Hrs. IST.

The lander will carry a rover, Pragyan, which will be deployed after the landing.

Pragyan is a robotic rover that will explore the lunar surface for up to 1 lunar day (14 Earth days).

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2, which successfully orbited the Moon in 2019.

Chandrayaan-3 is India's third lunar mission and its first attempt to soft-land a spacecraft on the Moon's south pole.

The success of Chandrayaan-3 will make India the fourth country to soft-land a spacecraft on the Moon, after the United States, Russia, and China.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a major milestone in India's space program and will help the country to become a leading player in the global space race.
